🇬🇧 WHAT IF 30,000 PEOPLE HELPED FUND WHAT BRITAIN BUILDS NEXT?

TXTWRK Annual 2026: Feedback
📍 Pride Park, Derby

🎟️ 30,000 × £100 tickets
💷 = £3,000,000

Our ambition is to explore how that scale of participation could help create something bigger than an event:

£3m of potential community funding supporting ideas, startups, innovators and communities.

Britain has extraordinary people building things every day.

Founders. Teachers. Engineers. Tradespeople. Designers. Researchers. Students. Creators. Community leaders. Technologists. Manufacturers. Volunteers.

What happens when we start connecting them?

TXTWRK Annual 2026 is about finding out.

💬 FEEDBACK

What should Britain be building?

Which problems should innovators be solving?

Which ideas deserve an opportunity?

What should community funding support?

Who should be on the stage — and who isn’t being heard today?

🙋 VOLUNTEERING

We also want people who want to help us build it.

Not just event professionals.

Students. Businesses. Communities. Creators. Organisers. Educators. Technologists. Retired professionals. First-time volunteers.

People who simply think:

“I could contribute something.”

@GovUK @UKGovernment testing the waters again with an energy scare or propaganda for business, we call it?

Indeed they are.

Water is one of the most important elements in our society and even though it needs major reforms, investment and support today and into the decades ahead, it remains one of the most affordable essentials available to people across the United Kingdom.

So what is happening, you ask?

Business, government, regulators, campaigners and unions are once again clashing over what is right, what is affordable, who should pay, and what the future of our waterways should look like. That is the latest chapter unfolding on this frontier.

The challenges are not small. Aging infrastructure, sewage discharges, river health, drought concerns, population growth, environmental protection, flood management, energy demands and rising operating costs are all competing for attention at the same time.

But while the headlines focus on conflict, there is a bigger question:

What kind of water system do we want for the next 10, 20 or 50 years?

Should investment be accelerated?
Should waterways receive greater environmental protections?
Should communities have more say in local water decisions?
Should innovation and new technologies play a larger role?
How do we balance affordability with long-term improvements?

These are not questions for government and industry alone.

Communities, local groups, businesses, charities, engineers, environmental organisations and everyday citizens all have a role to play in shaping the future of water, rivers, reservoirs, flood protection and waste management across the United Kingdom.

The future of our waterways is being written now.

What changes would you like to see?

The answer isn't to stop young people using technology.

The answer is to build better technology, better education, better parenting support, and better behaviour systems.

Every major system in society teaches people how to behave. Schools do it. Workplaces do it. Sports clubs do it. Roads do it.

We don't ban roads because some people drive dangerously.

We teach, guide, monitor, enforce rules where necessary, and help people become better road users.

The same principle should apply online.

Apps and networks should become better at identifying harmful behaviour patterns, educating users, promoting healthier interactions, and helping people understand the consequences of their actions before problems escalate.

If social media is restricted, what comes next?

Online gaming?

Private messaging apps?

Virtual worlds?

Community forums?

The challenge doesn't disappear because a person leaves one platform. In many cases the behaviour simply moves elsewhere, often into spaces with even less visibility, support, moderation, or education.

Bad actors adapt.

New targets appear.

The underlying problem remains.

Young people need places where they can build profiles, create things, make mistakes, learn lessons, recover from those mistakes, and move forward with confidence.

That is how people develop.

The bigger conversation should not only be about platforms.

It should also be about parenting support, digital education, community responsibility, media responsibility, government responsibility, and the responsibilities of the technology companies themselves.

Over the last 15 years we have seen increasing levels of outrage-driven content, division, anger, and political point-scoring across many parts of public life.

If politicians want to discuss the effects of online behaviour, then the discussion should include everyone contributing to that environment — including politicians, media organisations, influencers, app vendors, advertisers, and public institutions.

Technology is not going away.

The question is whether we teach people to use it well.

The future should be built around digital education, personal responsibility, transparency, accountability, and helping people develop healthy online behaviours — not simply removing access and hoping the problem disappears.

🇬🇧 United Kingdom: The Future Is Less Government Spending, More Enterprise

The answer to every problem cannot be:

Spend more. Borrow more. Tax more.

For decades, government spending has climbed higher and higher.

Yet many citizens feel:
•More financially squeezed
•Further from home ownership
•Less optimistic about the future
•Surrounded by systems that cost more but do not always perform better

The next chapter for the United Kingdom should not be endless spending increases.

It should be smarter government and stronger enterprise.

That includes defence.

Instead of pushing defence spending towards £80bn, £90bn or £100bn per year, the long-term direction should be towards a leaner, more efficient model, with government focused on core national defence and security.

A target closer to £50bn per year would force prioritisation, efficiency and accountability.

The opportunity does not disappear.

It moves.

The opportunity moves into the private sector.

Thousands of businesses, startups, engineers, software developers, cyber-security specialists, drone companies, infrastructure specialists and resilience firms can build the next generation of solutions.

Innovation should not belong only to government departments and large contractors.

Innovation should belong to the people.

The wealth of a nation is not measured by how much government spends.

It is measured by how many people are creating, building, employing, inventing and contributing.

The future of Britain is not bigger government.

The future of Britain is a stronger society, stronger enterprise, stronger communities and more opportunity for ordinary people to build something of their own.

How much should the UK spend on defence out of the £1400b?

🇬🇧 United Kingdom: Houses vs Flats — The Living Standards Question

In 2001, England & Wales had:

17.535 million houses/bungalows
4.125 million flats, maisonettes, apartments and other household spaces

By 2011, that became:

18.375 million houses/bungalows
4.992 million flats, maisonettes, apartments and other household spaces

That means from 2001 to 2011:

Houses/bungalows increased by 840,000
Flats/apartments increased by 867,000

So flats/apartments grew faster:

Houses: +4.8%
Flats/apartments: +21.0%

By 2021, England & Wales had:

19.3 million households in houses/bungalows
5.4 million households in flats, maisonettes or apartments

That means from 2011 to 2021:

Houses/bungalows increased by about 925,000
Flats/apartments increased by about 408,000

Across the full 2001 to 2021 period:

Houses/bungalows increased by about 1.765 million
Flats/apartments increased by about 1.275 million

But the living standards issue is not only the number.

It is the type of life being created.

More flats.

More apartments.

More renters.

More landlord/company-controlled living.

More people without gardens.

More people without outdoor space.

More people without privacy, calm, storage, pets, family flexibility or tranquility.

At the same time, private renting changed heavily.

In 2001, England & Wales had 2.587 million private rented occupied household spaces.

By 2011, that had risen to 4.216 million.

That is a 63% increase in private renting in just ten years.

So the real question is not only:

How many homes are being built?

The real question is:

Are we building proper living standards, or just more housing units?

A flat can count as a home in the statistics.

But does it give people:

🌳 a garden
🧼 health and hygiene
🔒 privacy
🧠 peace of mind
👨‍👩‍👧 family space
🐕 space for pets
🌿 tranquility
🤝 social value
🛠 practical living
🌤 access to nature

Because if the housing count rises while living quality falls, then the UK is not only facing a housing crisis.

It is facing a living standards crisis.
