🍂 Derby.Support | Stay Safe Derby | 8 October 2026

Tonight in Derby, temperatures may not look extreme on paper, but many residents will be noticing that it feels much colder, with chilly winds, darker evenings and autumn conditions firmly taking hold. Current weather data shows conditions feeling as low as 3°C overnight.

🌡️ Where We've Come From

Over September, Derby and the Midlands experienced a relatively warm month, with temperatures across the region running above average for the time of year. The Midlands recorded an average maximum temperature of around 20.3°C during September, with generally drier conditions than normal.

Just a few weeks ago, Derby saw days reaching the low-20s Celsius. Historical records show temperatures around 24°C in early September.

🌦️ Where We're Heading

9 Oct12°C7°C
10 Oct13°C5°C
11 Oct16°C14°C
12 Oct19°C10°C
13 Oct15°C7°C
The message is simple:

🧥 Be Safe. Be Warm. Check On People.

As autumn settles across the Northern Hemisphere, many households are facing increasing pressure from rising living costs, housing insecurity and the need for warmer clothing.

At Derby.Support, we're exploring how communities, local government, national government, charities, innovators and manufacturers can work together to ensure everyone can access approved, affordable, sustainable coats and winter clothing.

Imagine:
•Sustainable coat designs made to last.
•Community-backed clothing schemes.
•Local creators and innovators developing new solutions.
•Approved standards for warmth, durability and sustainability.
•Opportunities for careers in community development, technology and social innovation.

🏠 Andy Burnham has consistently highlighted the importance of supporting people facing homelessness and rough sleeping. That conversation matters everywhere, including Derby. A warm coat alone will not solve homelessness, but warmth, dignity, shelter, employment and community support are all connected parts of the same challenge.

Our Community Developer Team believes the next generation of solutions will come from people who are willing to build, create, design and innovate together.

🍂 Autumn 2026 Call To Action

✅ Wear warm layers.

✅ Check on elderly neighbours, vulnerable people and anyone sleeping rough.

✅ Support local charities and community projects.

✅ Encourage sustainable clothing and repair schemes.

✅ Join the creators, innovators and community builders helping shape better solutions.

The seasons are changing.

The weather is changing.

Our response should change too.

Stay safe, Derby. Stay warm. Nobody should be left out in the cold.

Help us plan Pride Park, Derby today. 🖤🤍

We’re working towards one of our biggest community projects yet — co-hosted with @TXTWRK.com, supporting the TheUKparty.com movement and a much bigger ambition:

Getting people involved again.

In politics. In their communities. In creating things. In solving problems. And in supporting the next generation of innovators, designers, creatives and community leaders.

📍 Pride Park, Derby
🎪 TXTWRK Annual 2026
🌍 Building towards TXTWRK Annual 2027

Want to play a part?

This isn’t an event we’re asking you to simply attend.

We’re inviting you to help shape it.

Whether you’ve got an idea, want to have your say, can contribute something, want to volunteer, represent an organisation, showcase your work — or simply think “I’d like to play a role” — there’s a way in.

Who do we want to connect with today?

1. Community groups & grassroots organisations
2. Artists, musicians, performers & entertainers
3. Designers, makers, developers & innovators
4. Young people with ideas that deserve a platform
5. Schools, colleges & universities
6. Local businesses & independent traders
7. Charities, CICs & voluntary organisations
8. Sports clubs & community teams
9. Food, hospitality & event traders
10. Photographers, filmmakers & content creators
11. Speakers, educators & workshop leaders
12. Event, production, staging & technical people
13. Volunteers who simply want to help
14. People interested in politics and improving how our communities are represented
15. Anyone doing something brilliant in their community that Derby needs to know about

And if we’ve missed you — tell us.

🏢 WANT TO CONTRIBUTE?

Apply to our Business Checklist if you want to contribute to the event, bring an idea, offer a service, get involved as an organisation or explore what role you could play.

🙋 WANT TO VOLUNTEER?

You can also get involved through the TXTWRK volunteering route.

Choose whichever route best reflects how you want to get involved — or explore both.

You don’t need experience running events.

You don’t need a huge following.

You don’t even need to know exactly what your role could be yet.

This event isn’t only about what happens on stage.

It’s about showing what becomes possible when a city connects its people, ideas, skills and opportunities.

You can already explore what’s happening across our community through the All Activity kit on Derby.support. Add your location to TXTWRK and your activity can also be indexed through the Link Menu on Derby.support, helping people discover what’s happening around them.

And Pride Park is only the beginning.

Our ambition is for this experience to lead into TXTWRK Annual 2027 — connecting communities across the country through a live link to stage and working towards welcoming up to 250,000 people.

We’ve never delivered a major public-facing event on this scale before.

That’s part of the point.

We want to document the journey, share what works, share what doesn’t, and ultimately show other communities how they can build something too.

Have you already been playing a role in your community?

Could this be your groundbreaking opportunity?

Come and have your say. Come and contribute. Come and volunteer. Come and help shape it.

www.Derby.support Great News This Friday!

With an update to www.DerbyCommunityHub.com 👀 You've got to see it - Plus learn more about these great new benefits for communities in Derby!

We're the first community on the planet to be able to install the @TXTWRK!Documentation: All Activity! and feel privileged to educate you about this historical movements for the City of Derby, our nation and globally on the world stage!

TXTWRK really proves the reason in public, open & transparent character profiles.

---

What does it all mean?

1. By adding your location at TXTWRK, you can become part of Derby's connected community network.

When you create your TXTWRK profile and add Derby as your location, the public information and activity you choose to build through TXTWRK can become associated with that location.

That means we're not simply creating another local directory where somebody has to manually add every person, organisation or update.

We're beginning to create a living community index powered by the people actually using it.

---

2. Your public TXTWRK activity can become useful beyond TXTWRK itself.

TXTWRK isn't only about creating a profile.

Public TXTWRK records can include things such as:
•Your public profile
•Posts and updates
•Topics and categories
•Events
•Checklists and volunteering opportunities
•Feedback
•Questions and community activity
•Skills and contributions
•Projects and work
•Products and other public activity
•Location-connected records

The important idea is that these records don't necessarily have to remain on one social timeline.

Through TXTWRK's Web API Kits, participating community websites can use TXTWRK's structured public information within their own websites and services.

Publish once. Build a useful public record. Let that record become discoverable in more useful places.

---

3. That's what we've installed in Derby today. 🌍

Today we've installed TXTWRK API technology across:

www.Derby.support

and

www.DerbyCommunityHub.com

This allows our community websites to connect with TXTWRK rather than us having to manually recreate every piece of community information ourselves.

There are two important parts we want Derby to understand.

The Linking Menu

The TXTWRK Linking API Kit helps connect people with locations.

By setting your location on TXTWRK, your public profile can become associated with Derby and made discoverable through our connected community services.

Our Linking Menu can then help people explore and search the community using filters designed around useful local discovery.

Over time, this creates something much more meaningful than a list of names.

Location and profile information can help people discover others through things such as:
•Location
•Time in an area
•Languages
•Community involvement
•Volunteering interests
•Skills
•Career context

— where those fields form part of the appropriate public profile/search information.

It means a community website can start asking a much more useful question:

"Who and what is actually connected to this place?"

---

4. The new All Activity API Kit takes this another step forward.

The All Activity API Kit allows public TXTWRK activity to be featured through connected websites.

So rather than visiting Derby.support and only seeing information written directly by us, the website can begin reflecting activity created by people using the wider TXTWRK network.

Where that activity is publicly available and connected appropriately to Derby, it can become part of the local discovery experience.

This means Derby.support can increasingly become a window into what people are:

doing, creating, organising, offering, asking, sharing, developing and contributing across Derby.

And because this is delivered through an API Kit, the information originates from the TXTWRK system and can be presented through our own community website.

---

5. Public does NOT mean everything about you becomes public. 🔐

This distinction is incredibly important.

TXTWRK is being developed around public records with clear private boundaries.

The purpose of these community API Kits is to make appropriate public information more useful and discoverable — not to expose people's private account information.

Private or protected areas can include things such as:
•Private messages
•Notifications
•Private to-dos
•Private saves
•Scrapboard information
•Wallet and balance areas
•Business dashboard information
•Purchase/address information
•Certain checklist application information
•Your registered email address

So when we talk about an open and transparent community network, we're talking about making the things intended to form your public character, public activity and public contribution useful.

Your private working and account information remains a different layer.

---

6. And what about Premium or paid TXTWRK services?

TXTWRK also has a separate Premium/service layer and is developing additional paid tools and tiers.

That is different from the principle we're demonstrating here.

The community discovery idea is about connecting appropriate public TXTWRK records to useful community services.

Private account areas, protected information and paid/Premium services don't suddenly become public because a community has installed an API Kit.

Think of it as different layers:

PUBLIC

Things you intentionally build as part of your public TXTWRK presence and activity.

PRIVATE / PROTECTED

Your personal working areas, account information and protected interactions.

PREMIUM / PAID SERVICES

Additional TXTWRK services, tools and capabilities provided through its service tiers.

---

7. Why does this matter for Derby?

Because we're testing a different model for community technology.

Instead of every community organisation building another isolated database...

Instead of residents repeatedly creating the same information on different websites...

Instead of useful community activity disappearing down social-media timelines...

We can begin connecting structured public information together.

A person can build their public character.

An organisation can document what it does.

Someone can publish an opportunity.

Someone can volunteer.

Someone can create an event.

Someone can share feedback.

Someone can contribute skills.

And community websites can begin helping people discover those records through the place they belong to.

---

Derby is helping demonstrate what that future could look like.

Today we've installed these TXTWRK API Kits into www.Derby.support and www.DerbyCommunityHub.com.

This Friday, we're excited to show you more.

Add your location on TXTWRK.

Build your public profile.

Share useful public activity.

Connect with Derby.

And watch what happens when a community website becomes connected to the people who make the community what it is. 🌍

Discover. Connect. Contribute.

🌍 TXTWRK Annual 2026: Feedback

🏟️ Pride Park, Derby | 30,000 ambition
🎤 Our first major co-host public event

For Derby Community Hub, this is about Derby helping shape something much bigger — bringing community, business, education, politics, housing, design, sustainability and innovation together.

💬 Feedback means listening first. What should we improve? What are people already building? What businesses, events and communities could start next? How do we start our first event?

📍 @DerbyCommunityHub connects locally.

🇬🇧 TheUKparty.com encourages people to participate in Britain — politically, economically and through starting businesses and communities.

🛠️ Txtwrk provides free tools and support to help people turn ideas into action.

We want builders to meet designers, startups to meet leaders, students to meet employers and communities to meet decision-makers.

🏘️ As Britain redesigns its homes and communities, we want new thinking around housing, construction, energy, technology, sustainability and better design to have a stage too.

🎤 And that stage belongs to more than headline names. Communities, trades, startups, creators, innovators and first-time voices should all have a route onto it.

🎟️ Tickets: £100 & opportunities to request free guest access

This is where we listen, connect, learn and start.

Then comes 🇬🇧 TXTWRK Annual 2027: Unity — our 2–3 day, 250,000 participation ambition connecting communities across the UK.

💬 2026: Feedback — tell us what matters.
🤝 2027: Unity — let’s bring it together.

🔗 https://txtwrk.com/q/DHcZEYK — you can apply to TXTWRK to give feedback or join our Community Development checklist via https://txtwrk.com/viewPost.php?id=3280&item_id=1762 where we will begin to add more information today.

The Heart of Derby Through Time

Street: Cornmarket / Market Place (around HSBC Bank & Primark lights)
City: Derby, Derbyshire, East Midlands, England, United Kingdom, Europe

Stand outside the HSBC building at the junction of Cornmarket and Market Place and you're standing in one of Derby's oldest continuously used public spaces. For centuries, this has been where people came to trade, meet, celebrate, debate, shop and simply watch the world go by.

Today

The area is surrounded by some of Derby's best-known landmarks:
•HSBC Bank
•Derby Market Place
•Derby Market Hall
•The Guildhall Theatre
•Derby Cathedral Quarter
•A wide variety of cafés, restaurants, pubs and independent shops

Throughout the year the Market Place hosts seasonal events, food markets, live entertainment, Christmas lights, charity events and public celebrations. Although many of the buildings have changed, the purpose of this location has remained remarkably similar: bringing people together.

---

Around 500 Years Ago (c. AD 1525)

You would already recognise this as the centre of Derby.

The Market Place bustled with merchants selling grain, livestock, cloth, leather, meat and produce from surrounding villages. Horses and carts filled the streets while traders called out their goods. It was the economic heart of Derby and one of the busiest places in the county.

---

Around 1,000 Years Ago (c. AD 1025)

Derby was one of the Five Boroughs of the Danelaw.

The marketplace was already an important gathering place where Anglo-Saxon and Viking traders exchanged goods. Timber buildings lined narrow streets while blacksmiths, merchants and craftsmen worked nearby.

Much of today's street layout follows the same medieval pattern established over a thousand years ago.

---

Around 1,500 Years Ago (c. AD 525)

Following the end of Roman Britain, this area was largely open countryside.

Woodland covered much of the landscape, with small farming communities scattered across the River Derwent valley. Tracks crossed the countryside where roads and pavements now stand.

---

Around 2,000 Years Ago (c. AD 25)

The Roman settlement of Derventio (Little Chester) flourished just north of modern Derby.

This location was probably open farmland and woodland, connected by tracks leading towards the Roman settlement.

---

Around 2,500 Years Ago (c. 475 BC)

During the Iron Age, the landscape consisted of forests, grazing land and cultivated clearings.

Small farming communities occupied the fertile valley while local tribes raised livestock and grew crops.

---

Around 3,000 Years Ago (c. 975 BC)

The Bronze Age landscape was dominated by woodland surrounding the River Derwent.

Early farming families cleared small patches of land using bronze tools, while deer, wild boar and birds roamed the forests.

There were no buildings, roads or market squares—only nature and the first signs of permanent human settlement.

---

A Place That Never Stopped Being the Centre

Over the last three thousand years this location has transformed from woodland, to farmland, to Roman countryside, to an Anglo-Saxon meeting place, to a Viking market, through medieval trade, Victorian prosperity and into today's modern city centre.

The faces have changed.

The buildings have changed.

The businesses have changed.

But one thing has remained remarkably constant:

> People have always come here to meet.

That makes the junction around Cornmarket and Market Place not just the geographical heart of Derby—but one of its oldest social, commercial and cultural hearts as well.
